We are having a mini-SET within our ARES group on January 20 at 10:00 AM and are inviting neighboring groups to contact us. I attached simplified versions of our plan in Polk County. Jason and I will be at the EOC radio room. Jason may be on mesh networking. I will be handling the voice frequencies. Michael and Kevin will take the comm van to the Polk County Fairgrounds and set up the HF antenna. We have set up the HF antenna before but have not communicated with it so we would really like people to contact us on or about 7248 kHz. I’ve BCC’ed both members and other hams in Polk County. If you want to come to the EOC Radio Room prior to 10:00 AM, please bring a handheld so you can send messages as well. We will have members simulate being an agency involved to the storm response and send and receive ICS messages on voice and Winlink. If you would rather operate from home, let me know and you can do the same simulation from home. If you come to the EOC you may be sent to other locations we may need to communicate with and test simplex and repeater contacts from outside the buildings. I am going to invite interested person the Mid-Valley ARES net to send us messages as well. Following are what we would like to accomplish: Test the HF antenna on the comm van on 40 meters. Practice sending and receiving ICS-213 forms on voice and WinLink. Involve the newer members and interested hams in message handling. Test reliability of contacts on VHF simplex.
